Polimoda is an official partner of Lisbon Fashion Week. SANGUE NOVO – Young Designers Competition is dedicated to emerging fashion talents, offering new opportunities and visibility to young designers fighting hard to make it in the industry.
A multidisciplinary project focused on promoting and developing Portuguese Fashion, ModaLisboa operates at a national and international level. This joint initiative with the Câmara Municipal de Lisboa focuses on giving space and opportunity to a new generation of designers, sprinkling the fashion sector with young creativity.
Out of 82 Portuguese and international applications, André Santos, Beatriz Julião, Cêlá, Feliciano, Ferencz Borbala (Romania), Filipe Cerejo, Flávia Brito (Brazil), Francisco Pereira, Inês Manuel Baptista and Louis Appelmans (Belgium) were chosen to compete.
“Without a return to creativity, our sector is at risk of stalling,” says Director Danilo Venturi. “We need new ideas, originality, innovation and fresh energy. We have to ensure that young people have the opportunity to make their own creative contributions. It’s important to have a global vision and draw on different cultures; we must be open to diversify and disrupt. There can’t only be Paris, London and New York. Initiatives such as Sangue Novo, just like all fashion school shows, are a breath of fresh air. You witness the purest creativity, free from superstructures. We are happy to make our contribution with this scholarship and be able to do something concrete to support emerging talent.”
Venturi will head to Portugal on October 11th to join the jury of fashion professionals, composed of designer Miguel Flor, winner of Sangue Novo 1996, Lidija Kolovrat, Veronique Branquinho as well as the director of Fucking Young! magazine Adriano Batista.
Together, they will evaluate the collections of the 10 finalists from some of the most important European and American fashion schools in the world and select the final 6 that will move on to the final phase. Each of them will receive a € 1000 prize to develop a new collection to be unveiled at the March 2020 Lisbon Fashion Week, where the top talents will be announced.
Thanks to the collaboration with Polimoda, the selected student of the ModaLisboa Award will receive a scholarship to attend a Master in Fashion Design or Collection Design in Florence worth €28.000, as well as a €3.500 euro living expenses grant.
