Sensory Overload of Best Moments

This year, Polimoda’s 2019 fashion show featured the memorable work of 22 talented young designers, who showcased four years of consistent work and perseverance to hundreds of guests and international industry insiders. The transformation from nature to technology glowed from the garb, offering collections that presented the young designers’ passionate, fully developed creative identities.

Looking back beyond the runway, we remember the still moments of preparation, the inspiring presence of special guest Alber Elbaz, the final touches to the collections, and most of all, the energy each of these students put into their official fashion world debut.

Concrete hallways of endless red lights led guests to the runway, tucked inside the alternative spaces of Manifattura Tabacchi. The fluidity of the music raised vibrations and made hearts beat faster. According to our director Danilo Venturi, Supernature is a techno-primitive feeling that “gives us a superiority that borders on monstrous, potentially destructive, supernatural, yet cultural.” These words rung true on June 11th.

The jury was composed of some of the most influential contemporary fashion figures. The talented industry insiders from Vogue Italia, Richemont, Alexander McQueen, Emilio Pucci, Pitti Immagine and more selected Francesco Malandrini’s collection “HERD – la mandria” as the winner of the Best Collection of 2019, awarding the student with the Pitti Tutoring & Consulting Reward, including a series of meetings with Luca Rizzi, Pitti Tutoring & Consulting Director and his team.

Through the use of video, computer animation and advanced audio systems, the audience experienced the empty industrial spaces of Manifattura Tabacchi through a fashion show runway, revealing a supernatural immersive reality and sensory overload.

Conscious of both their impact in front of and behind the screens safely hidden in their back pockets, these students are now going out into the world of fashion, art, and some, further studies. We applaud your work and wish you all godspeed on your journey.
