Building Bridges Between Italian Creativity and South African Talent

Polimoda’s Third Year at FashionBridges: Cultivating Global Talent

For the third consecutive year, Polimoda has partnered with The Embassy of Italy in Pretoria, South Africa, Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, Centro di Firenze per la Moda Italiana, and South African Fashion Week to bring the Fashion Bridges initiative to life.

This ambitious project is designed to support and nurture the creative bond between South African and Italian fashion designers, providing a platform for the exchange of ideas, techniques and perspectives.

During the latest South African Fashion Week in Johannesburg, Polimoda’s involvement led to several fruitful collaborations. Alumnus Federico Cina presented his Appartamento collection, which drew inspiration from his roots and Italy’s rich artisan tradition.

In addition, under the guidance of Polimoda’s Director Massimiliano Giornetti and faculty members, South African designer Lezanne Viviers unveiled her Karoo Land of Thirst collection, which featured a harmonious fusion of shoes and jewelry made in South Africa.

As we look to the future, the Fashion Bridges project aims to develop new partnerships between the Italian and South African fashion industries. Its focus extends to various sectors including textile machinery, wool, mohair, cotton and leather. The initiative will continue to seek to champion young talent by offering training, international exposure and immersion in the trends and creativity of both countries.
