Filippo Fanini is an entrepreneur, fashion designer and educator, as well as a Polimoda alumnus, whose practice connects product design, craftsmanship, industry, and education.
Growing up within his family business, specialized in high end leather apparel, he developed an early understanding of craftsmanship, materials and manufacturing. He later studied at Polimoda, where he was mentored by Linda Loppa.
His professional journey led him to experiences with Marithé + François Girbaud and Salvatore Ferragamo. Following Ferragamo, he developed his own fashion line, establishing a design language centred on craftsmanship, leather and material research.
It was within this research that EDMOS first emerged in 2011, originating from an exploration into transforming and reusing leather waste as part of his own collection. What began as material experimentation progressively developed into a broader research project, eventually generating intellectual property related to the material and collaborations with international brands including Louis Vuitton, Christian Louboutin, and KARA.
His international experience also includes a two-year collaboration with Theory Luxe in China, consulting on accessory design and development. More recently, he collaborated with The Bridge Wellness Hub in Abu Dhabi, designing an athleisure collection conceived around training, wellness and leisure, using organic cotton and sustainable materials.
Today, Fanini is the owner and Managing Director of GLED Srl, an Italian company specializing in product development, sampling and manufacturing for the fashion industry.
Remaining actively involved in the industry allows him to maintain a constant dialogue between creative thinking and the realities of making.
Education represents an equally fundamental dimension of his practice. For over fourteen years, Fanini has combined his professional career with teaching, developing an educational approach that connects product and design with culture, society and critical thinking.
His commitment to education extends beyond the academic environment. Through his company and a long-standing collaboration with LINEAPELLE, he supports emerging designers through research and product development, including Galib Gassanoff of INSTITUTION, Francesco Murano, Giuseppe Buccinnà , and Andrea Grossi, connecting emerging creative talent with materials, technical expertise and the productive culture of the Italian fashion industry.
As a Leading Teacher at Polimoda, Fanini sees education as an active exchange between industry, craftsmanship and culture. His approach encourages students to develop independent thinking and an individual creative identity, building a deep understanding of product, design and the relationship between them.
