Monika Poettinger has taught economic and business history at Bocconi University (Milan) since her graduation in International Economics in 1995. She holds a PHD in Economic and Social History from the same university and a teaching qualification in the same field of study. Since moving to Florence in 2010, she has collaborated with the chair for the History of Economic Thought at the local university. In 2019, she started teaching economics courses at Polimoda at undergraduate and master level. Her research encompasses foreign entrepreneurship in Milan in the 19th Century, international merchant networks and their role in industrialisation, the history of the Ginori porcelain manufacture, and the history of winemaking in Tuscany. In the field of economic thought she has researched 19th Century Tuscan liberalism, Italian economic thought under the fascist regime, and heterodox thinkers such as Otto Neurath, Fritz Redlich, and Amintore Fanfani. Main publications can be retrieved from researchgate.net and online bookshops. Since teaching at Polimoda she is collecting data for a volume on brands as modern ideologies. For this intellectual venture she is particularly grateful for the many stimulating discussions she has had with her students.
