Overview
The Master in Sustainable Fashion Systems, Strategy & Finance represents a new generation of fashion business education, one that positions sustainability not as an add-on, but as the defining logic of the entire industry. Drawing on Polimoda’s established expertise in Sustainable Fashion and International Fashion Business, this course frames sustainability as a systemic transformation across creative industries, integrating policy, digital infrastructure, and finance into a coherent, forward-looking curriculum. Developed in partnership with the United Nations Fashion & Lifestyle Network, this master connects students directly to a global platform driving transparent, collaborative action toward the Sustainable Development Goals across the fashion and lifestyle industry.
This course, aimed at business, economics, finance, or sustainable design graduates and early-career professionals, develops a strategic and systems-level understanding of the global fashion and lifestyle industry as a complex environment shaped by evolving regulation, climate imperatives, digital innovation, and shifting capital flows. They learn to balance creative and brand-driven considerations with sustainability goals and market positioning, gaining the tools to interpret and apply ESG frameworks within fashion and luxury contexts.
From designing transparent and traceable supply chains to understanding the role of green finance in enabling business transformation, graduates are prepared to integrate policy, governance, and digital tools into coherent business strategies. The aim is to produce leaders capable of navigating and driving the most pressing transformation of our time: making the global fashion industry responsible, resilient, and future-fit.

In a fashion and sustainability context, they translate complex data, from ESG metrics to consumer behavior insights, into actionable recommendations that help companies evolve their business models in line with regulatory demands and market opportunity
A product compliance and traceability manager ensures that fashion products meet evolving legal and sustainability standards throughout the supply chain. They oversee the implementation of tools such as Digital Product Passports, manage documentation across supplier networks, and liaise with regulatory bodies to ensure full transparency from raw material to finished product.
A sustainable supply chain manager oversees the end-to-end flow of materials and products, ensuring that each stage meets environmental and social responsibility standards. They identify opportunities for circular practices, work with suppliers to implement traceability systems, and balance efficiency with ethical accountability across global operations.
An ESG and impact manager develops and monitors a company’s environmental, social, and governance commitments. In the fashion and lifestyle sector, they design measurement frameworks, report on progress against targets, engage stakeholders, and align business practices with international sustainability standards and investor expectations.
A green finance specialist structures and evaluates financial instruments aligned with sustainability goals, including green bonds, sustainability-linked loans, and impact investments. They connect capital markets with the fashion industry’s transformation needs, advising on how financial decisions can support a company’s long-term ESG strategy.
An impact investment analyst assesses investment opportunities through the dual lens of financial return and measurable social or environmental impact. In fashion and lifestyle, they analyze the sustainability credentials of brands and supply chains, advise on portfolio strategy, and support the growing market for responsible investment across the creative industries.

Over its two sites, Polimoda exceeds 15,000 square meters of fashion education spaces, capable of accommodating over 2,000 students. The two campuses at Manifattura Tabacchi and Villa Favard, located a short distance from each other, form a single base for fashion education.

Library
For sustainable fashion systems students, the library offers an exceptional range of resources spanning economics, environmental studies, business strategy, fashion history, policy, and technology, providing rich intellectual context for the course’s interdisciplinary demands.
Polimoda’s library is one of the largest fashion libraries in Europe. Located in Florence’s Villa Favard, the Centro di Documentazione Matteo Lanzoni – Polimoda Library holds an extensive collection of fashion publications.Â
Since its establishment in 1986, it has grown to become a hub of fashion knowledge. With over 29,000 volumes, covering fashion history, design, textile technology, marketing, and economics, it caters to diverse interests, and also features fashion magazines, look-books, and online materials. It is also a space for quiet, independent study.
