On Thursday, May 23rd, Polimoda welcomes Kaat Debo, general director and chief curator of the Antwerp Fashion Museum MoMu, for a cultural dialogue on the growing popularity of fashion exhibitions, touching on the role of MoMu in the city of Antwerp and revealing the young mastermind’s future curatorial vision.
Committed to MoMu since 2001, Kaat Debo joined the museum as a curator and was subsequently appointed to the position of general director and chief curator in 2009. In fact, Linda Loppa, Polimoda’s Advisor of Strategy and Vision, originally hired the fashion visionary at the start of her career in the museum field, further demonstrating that perseverance and passion can lead to success.
A literature and philosophy graduate, Debo joined the fashion curation world without prior experience, relying on the tried, tested and true method of experiential learning to hone her craft, producing superb exhibitions at MoMu including Maison Martin Margiela 20: The Exhibition; Walter Van Beirendonck: Dream the World Awake; 6+ Antwerp Fashion; and Margiela, The Hermès Years among others. In addition to her influential role as a museum director, Debo is also a proficient author of several published fashion books.
On the occasion of her Polimoda Rendez-Vous, Debo will explore the changing roles of Antwerp as a fashion city, discussing the increased interest worldwide in fashion as a fascinating cultural product and marketing tool as well as addressing MoMu’s extension and reopening in 2021, never missing a beat.
