Italomodern, directed by Stefanie Appel, is a love letter to Italian fashion. On 6 May, in Polimoda’s Aula Magna at Manifattura Campus, the documentary was presented by fashion journalist and critic Eva Desiderio, followed by a round table with the film’s director and some of the most important figures of the Italian panorama; Neri Fadigati President of Archivio Giorgini, Alberto Scaccioni General Secretary of CFMI, and Stefania Ricci Director of Museo Salvatore Ferragamo, and a contribution by Laudomia Pucci President Emilio Pucci Heritage.

Italomodern Fashion is dedicated to the birth of Italian fashion that took place in Florence in the 1950s, the postwar period in which the country witnessed a surge of creativity across all design fields. The city of Florence made a name for itself as a centre for fashion which would pave the way for major labels from Italy.Â
The documentary, via interviews with descendants and associates of some of the industry’s most prolific figures, from Ferragamo to Giovanni Battista Giorgini, Germana Marucelli, and Emilio Pucci, looks into this history while also presenting the future of fashion at Polimoda with insights by Director Massimiliano Giornetti and Fashion Design students, Ian Morris McDonald and Marianna Guerini, preparing their final collection.Â
Italomodern Fashion is available to view on ARTE until 17 July 2025.
