Vogue Italia Professionals Collaborate With Fashion Art Direction Students

Discovering the world of magazines

This year, Master in Fashion Art Direction students joined forces with the Vogue Italia team for an academic partnership to work on one-of-a-kind projects.

In October 2021, Polimoda students and Vogue Italia professionals met for the very first time. Francesca Ragazzi, Head of Editorial Content for Vogue Italia, gave a special lecture and analyzed the world of Vogue with the Master in Fashion Art Direction class.

In November 2021, during the Photo Vogue Festival in Milan, students met Chiara Bardelli Nonino, curator and Photo Editor of Vogue Italia, who guided them during the exhibition.

The visit to the Photo Vogue Festival helped students understand the power of an image as a means of communication. Knowing how to tell a story through images is fundamental for future Art Directors. The festival is a clear example of how we can talk about social, political and cultural issues related to fashion through images.

In April 2022, during the third meeting between Polimoda students and Vogue Italia, Fabio Messana, Creative Editor of CNX Italia, held a masterclass and explained all of the theoretical elements necessary for the realization of a fashion shoot.

Students were divided into groups and asked to develop a concept proposal based on different themes. Fabio Messana evaluated the projects developed by the students, selecting two for actual implementation; no longer only at the design level, but this time concretely, in the form of a shooting.

Selected students worked with Messana by their side on a real set, learning how to manage a photo shoot in all of its aspects, from casting to styling. This moment of experiential learning was a memorable moment for the Master in Fashion Art Direction students, thanks to the collaboration between Polimoda and Vogue Italia.

As a fourth and final experience, students met Sara Sozzani Maino, Head of Special Projects at Vogue Italia. During a classroom lesson at Polimoda, they presented their works and received her incredibly valuable feedback before their final presentations.
