In a supportive movement that goes from children to children, Polimoda offers its experience in training and developing creativity in the second edition of the Junior Summer Camp dedicated entirely to the theme of fashion. In collaboration with Mattel, Pitti Immagine and the Salvatore Ferragamo Museum, this initiative is in favor of the Fondazione Meyer, which operates exclusively in support of the Meyer Children’s Hospital of Florence, an Italian leader and excellence in children’s healthcare.
This educational project is aimed at children aged 8 to 12, with the purpose of translating their natural interest in fashion into an artistic and creative journey. Stimulating the imagination and intercultural exchange, the summer camp features a program of lectures and workshops focused on the realization of clothing and accessories.
Thanks to the collaboration with Mattel and Barbie, the theme of the 2019 Junior Summer Camp is You Can Be Anything, exploring the infinite possibilities every child is given to achieve their dreams. Inspired by the Barbie doll’s multifaceted career – who in her 60 years has taken on many professional roles, from ballerina to astronaut, princess and President of the United States – children will take part in workshops to craft original pieces, using their creations to address their hopes and dreams for the future.
The proceeds will be donated to support the Fondazione Meyer, an institution established to support communication, marketing and fundraising activities for the Meyer Children’s Hospital of Florence. The hospital is recognized nationwide for its excellence in pediatrics as related to research, innovative treatment methods and children’s healthcare.
The program includes lectures and workshops related to fashion, supervised by teachers with extensive experience in the sector and educators specialized in training courses with children. The ratio of teachers and participants is 1 to 5, so as to allow constant support and maximum attention for each child’s individual needs.
During the week there will be a visit to the Salvatore Ferragamo Museum, at the end of the course participants will piece together their own fashion creation that they can wear and carry with them. Lessons will be held in Italian and English, encouraging intercultural exchange between children of different nationalities.

Junior Summer Camp is held in Villa Favard, a splendid Renaissance-style palace surrounded by a large garden on the banks of the Arno river, located a few steps from the historic center and the Santa Maria Novella train station.
The young students will have at their disposal the classrooms of the institute, the Library – the largest documentation center on fashion in Europe – and the Polimoda Café, a café bar in the Villa’s garden, reserved exclusively for the students of the institute.
