On March 13th, one of the most sought after casting directors in the world, Piergiorgio Del Moro will come to Polimoda for a special Q&A to explain his work, life, and unique ideas of beauty.
Coming from a small town in Italy, Del Moro did not always have his sights set on the fashion industry. After studying International Law, Piergiorgio saw an opportunity to work in production in China and Japan, and so left Italy. He later relocated to New York City to pursue his current line of work, and in just a few years has become one of the most high-profile casting directors in the international fashion industry.
To be successful you need to understand branding and translating a client’s vision.
Piergiorgio Del Moro works across runway, editorial and advertising, and counts the likes of Versace, Dries Van Noten, Simone Rocha, Max Mara and Fendi as regular clients. He also works with acclaimed photographers including Collier Schorr, Peter Lindberg and Mert & Marcus. The key to his work is understanding the specific vision of these designers, brands and photographers, and finding the model to embody this.
Piergiorgio’s success is not only due to his sharp ability to find emerging faces, but also in his sense of diplomacy – something he brought with him from university – in a field that has recently received a lot of heat for poor management and mistreatment of models. In recent seasons, Piergiorgio Del Moro has also facilitated the casting of diverse models across ethnicity and age, pushing the fashion industry forward, one face at a time.
