Practice the mentorship you preach

Anita Wong's full of good advice

Anita Wong is the new mentor in town and final-year Undergraduate in Fashion Merchandising students are in for a ride.

In the early eighties, Anita Wong kick-started her career in retail by working as a Marketing Officer at Esprit's first flagship store in Asia. After five years at the company, Wong met Joyce Ma, founder of Joyce Boutique and empress of Asian fashion. She learned everything she possibly could under Ma's wings and discovered the magic of mentorship.

Joyce Ma became Anita's life mentor and she is forever grateful for the guidance. "Mentorship is not only about sharing one's expertise and experience on a professional level, but also on value, moral and ethics in life. Therefore, a mentor can be a lifetime role model of a mentee."

"I wish more young people get the opportunity to pursue their dreams and contribute their talents to the fashion industry in the future."

Anita eventually moved on to Christian Dior Asia Pacific during the Galliano era. She even worked at Club 21 in Singapore before returning to Dior to witness the arrival of Raf Simons and Maria Grazia Chiuri. In 2016, she decided to explore a road less traveled, becoming a merchandising consultant for several brands.

"I wish more young people get the opportunity to pursue their dreams and contribute their talents to the fashion industry in the future." Wong could fill hundreds of merchandising books with her extensive industry knowledge and is looking forward to giving back and helping young adults with their careers.

What can we say, Anita Wong is a match made in mentorship heaven for our final-year Undergraduate in Fashion Merchandising students and we're happy to welcome her into the Polimoda family!
