Fashion oracle Hirofumi Kurino is the new mentor of our Master in Fashion Economics. The compelling co-founder and senior advisor for creative direction at United Arrows is keen on mentoring future leaders of the industry.

“Fashion is the result of a good balance between creation and business,” explains Kurino. In fact, the Master in Fashion Economics aims to shape future Chief Financial Officers, exploring the technical side of business and finance at the corporate level while making parallel space for creativity.

A strong believer in sustainability and quality education, Kurino decided to pay it forward on the occasion of his collaboration with Polimoda, awarding a special scholarship to a deserving student in order to help them attend the Master in Fashion Economics. “This program offers many opportunities to students; I am pleased to personally contribute to their future.”

Despite old school notions about fashion economics, it is imperative to keep in mind that in today’s world, human-centric expression and imagination are of the essence. From philosophy to financial strategy, Polimoda’s Master of Fashion Economics offers an all-encompassing approach.”Just like Rei Kawakubo and Comme des Garçons, good business is the source of independence,” says Kurino.

From early days as a sales assistant in Tokyo to creative director and every position in-between, Kurino has seen it all and knows what it takes to stay relevant in the industry. Over the course of his career, he’s been recognized for his excellence with a multitude of accolades and awards including being named one of the 500 most influential people in fashion by The Business of Fashion and being one of the first Tokyo-based retailers to join the Ethical Fashion Initiative.
