Course

The Master in Bag Design, in partnership with Tod’s group, represents an elite educational offering that melds innovation with tradition, shaping the next generation of accessory designers. This program is intricately structured to develop talent capable of leading the future of leather goods through a synthesis of imaginative design and hands-on artisanship.

Students will immerse themselves in the realm of high-end bag design, engaging with rigorous studies of design principles, production techniques and the selection of premium materials. The curriculum goes beyond conventional learning pathways by delving into advanced merchandising strategies and collection planning, nurturing a bold and forward-thinking creative mindset.

At a time when accessories have transcended their supplementary status to become central to a brand’s identity, this course equips students to be at the vanguard of the fashion industry’s transformation. They will learn to harness the emblematic power of accessories, integrating excellence in craftsmanship and timeless design with the storied heritage of Italian luxury, preparing them to leave an indelible mark on international markets.

Students will participate in master classes and interactive workshops and undertake a unique project in collaboration with Tod’s group. Courses are led by seasoned professionals and augmented by insights from international guest lecturers, ensuring a rich blend of academic rigor and practical insight.

Throughout the 9-month program, students are tasked with the creation and refinement of a collection project, which will act as both a significant academic milestone and a key feature of their professional portfolios.

Lessons amount to a total of 700 contact hours and the overall obtainment of 80 credits.

As the program reaches its conclusion, students may have the opportunity to engage in an internship, allowing them to apply their academic learning in a practical setting, thus paving their way into the professional fashion landscape.

Curriculum

The curriculum of the course includes a range of subjects that will help students develop their skills and knowledge in the field. Some of the key topics covered include:

  • Bag Design: Exploration of design practices from conceptual research to the visualization of bag design ideas
  • Product Development and Merchandising: Strategies for creating, producing, and marketing new accessory products
  • Artisan Techniques: Mastery of patternmaking and prototyping for the creation of new accessory designs
  • Leather and materials research: In-depth study of leather properties, sourcing, and utilization in luxury goods
  • Graphics and 3D modelling: Training in graphic design and 3D visualization techniques for accessory products
  • Contemporary Fashion: Cultural and visual studies providing an understanding of the accessories sector within the current fashion landscape

Requirements

In order to be eligible for this course, you will need to be selected after the admission process.

During the application you are required to upload a Portfolio including an overview of your previous work with samples and photos.

Basic requirements are:

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV) with motivation letter
  • English language proficiency
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) or professional work experience in a related field
