The E-learning course in Fashion Design perfectly integrates the two words contained in its title, Fashion and Design, into distinct teaching areas. The first area is based on full immersion research to acquire cultural and technical skills, while the second area aims to create a coherent and well developed capsule collection.
Fashion Design is run by teachers from the industry. The main project of the course can be presented as a personal portfolio, integrating the research and the sketches. Lessons take place from October to December/January and amount to a total of 300 contact hours. English language proficiency and attendance are required.
Upon completion of the course, students will be automatically given the possibility to partake in the Polimoda Talent program.
The two areas, Fashion and Design, take concrete form in the following modules:
Contemporary Fashion, Fashion Sociology & Trend Research, Colors & Introduction to Materials, Graphic Design & 3D Printing, Fashion Drawing & Illustration, Fashion Development, Fashion Communications, Collection Design and Portfolio.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
- Develop a research methodology, envision and produce content that enhances their creative design.
- Create all necessary and basic materials for their designs through 2D and 3D development, integrating fashion vocabulary, materials, color, texture and patterns.
- Work within a brand’s or brief’s framework.
- Create a professional portfolio.
According to the level of responsibility, a fashion designer may need to follow a given brief or could have complete freedom to create. In both cases, the designer must cultivate curiosity and keep up to date with trends, materials and techniques. There are no working hours because, for a real Fashion Designer, life and work coincide.
After graduating in Fashion Design at Polimoda in collaboration with the London College of Fashion, Massimiliano Giornetti began his career in Haute Couture in Rome alongside designer and Polimoda alumnus Anton Giulio Grande, starting in the Men’s division of Salvatore Ferragamo in July 2000 and subsequently taking over creative direction four years later. In 2010, he also took on the Women’s ready-to-wear collection, thus becoming the first Creative Director of Ferragamo and holding the role for sixteen years. Memorable moments include the first resort collection held at the residence of philanthropist and art collector Doris Duke and the 2013 fashion show at the Denon wing of the Louvre; the first time the French museum lent its space to a fashion show. In 2017, he also collaborated in the relaunch of iconic Chinese luxury brand Shanghai Tang. His arrival at Polimoda marks the inception of the important challenge of matching up with the new creatives of fashion.
