Artisanal Shoes focuses on the fascinating, artisan traditions of manufacturing leather shoes. The course provides a up-close look at specific treatments and handling techniques, as well as preparation processes, stitching, working and leather finishings.
The curriculum includes: stitching and construction techniques; leather workshop; drawings; shoe design. This course focuses on artisan production techniques and the analysis of different styles of handcrafted shoes. The course will go through the whole creative process,, from paper modelling to cutting, sewing and assembly, prototyping and production; all of which will be illustrated and put into practice using sample models.
The course also includes: a visit to a manufacturer, an international guest lecture by a fashion industry expert; a personal project; and an individual interview with a senior teacher from the course to assess your potential and further opportunities to continue in this field of study. The whole working process and final project will be documented in a design book, adding value to the portfolio of any fashion designer.
Participation in this course is an excellent initial stage of preparation in the fashion business, a course of study that may continue with the 3-year undergraduate program in Leather Technology or the 9-month master program in Shoe Design.
