For the second year in a row, The Council of Fashion Designers of America has chosen Polimoda alumni for the latest edition of CFDA+, an initiative aimed at creating global visibility for up-and-coming designers.
Launched in 2013, the platform provides a space for graduating creatives worldwide to gain exposure as they venture into different sectors of the industry. Since its launch, it has reviewed more than 1,200 portfolios, initiating 286 new talents into the CFDA community. This year, apart from receiving high praise for their creative ability and sustainable methods, the design graduates were asked to assign themselves a title to replace “fashion designer”, making way for six overarching categories for the fashion leaders of the future: The Ambassadors, The Anthropologists, The Authenticists, The Futurists, The Specialists and The Visionaries.
The five chosen Polimoda alumni – self-defined as Iconoclast, Sojourner, Wonderer, Sentimentalist and Inquirer – will receive a one-year showcase on the association’s website and inclusion into a CFDA+ digital talent book, gaining major visibility across its community of over 500 leading American designers. Handpicked from 26 international schools, the 60 spotlighted graduates of this sixth edition, I AM: WE ARE, impressed the CFDA with “their comfort with agility and transformation,” cites the design grads website. “While each possess strengths in viable design specializations, they also display a vision for fashion’s future that extends far beyond commerce and product.”
Polimoda Fashion Design alums Silvia Barcucci, Andrea Delorenzi, Camilla Giani and Ravenna Osgood, all part of this year’s Polimoda Fashion Show, as well as Footwear and Accessories Design alumna Katharine Steuhm, earned themselves a spot on the platform this year. A true mark of distinction, this showcase is a major indicator of the power of their work, as well of their incredible potential in the industry.
