MASTERS IN FASHION FOOTWEAR DESIGN

This program provides, in a highly experiential format, the specialized technical knowledge of the footwear product and industry to create excellent contemporary fashion ACCESSORIES.
The high visibility and sales in this sector make this professional profile in high demand.

The objective of the course is to PROVIDE students with working knowledge of fashion industry and prepare them to enter into the sector with a superior understanding of the product and CREATIVE marketing skills.

Methods
In the fashion world, shoes are the most complicated and sophisticated of all projects, requiring specific knowledge of structures and procedures to create a viable product.
Italy's long tradition of fine craftsmanship, materials and design produces most of the world's luxury and fashion footwear.

Shoes are also objects of great desire and powerful expressions of a fashion brand's identity.
Working in close relationship to the resources and realities of the local luxury industry, from master craftsmen to innovative technology and research, the learning experience is more professional team than scholastic classroom.

Classroom lecture, industry and trade show visits, master class artisan workshops, provide the basis for group projects and individual research.

 
Program Content  
In the first part of the program students learn industry standards and design requirements for industrial production.
In the second these techniques are applied to original creative design
Integrating the "how to" with "the what to":


Technology and master craft: visits and demonstrations
Foot anatomy for shoe design: classroom lessons with drawing
Materials and components: visit to producers - Lasts, heels, bottoms
Leathers and tanneries: visit to tanneries and fairs
Prototype and cad design: formation cad creative
Artisan techniques: demonstration
Sourcing
Fashion industry practices
Product development: testimony from professionals in all phases of the industry
Fashion Concepts: workshop and seminars
Culture of footwear: innovative change rather than chronological periods. Guest speakers
Contemporary aesthetics: international mapping of aesthetic values and their current forms
Trend research: professional to the sector and personal (visits research)
Consumer concepts: cross disciplines tools for identifying market opportunity
Creative thinking: seminar for training creativity
Brand identity: understanding the creative dna of a brand: analysis tools and personal branding
Design and Communication:. Students work on project assignment for the industry

Sketching and illustration: specialized techniques for shoes and accessories
Collection development: basic structure of a shoe collection
Signature elements: accessories and construction detail
Branding: visual communication of brand merchandising, packaging, display

Final collection show independent
work under guidance for the realization of their final creative collection from prototype to presentation
 
Eligibility  
The Master is open to grads (or equivalent) holding a valid University degree preferably in Fashion Design, Footwear Design, Arts, Industrial or Product Design. Proven working experience in the field for candidates without a University degree will also be a condition for enrolment. Fluent knowledge of English is required.

Admissions  
Admissions are limited. The admission exam consists of:
- written exam auto biographical and motivational
- portfolio
- interview with the Head of Department
