A stitch used in decorative motifs made by carrying one yarn over another to form a cross.
DT, 1996
Context:
A number of stitches are formed by making crosses of various sizes in various directions. The basic cross stitch can be formed by making whole crosses, or by making a row of half-crosses and working back along the row to form the complete stitches. On single canvas the first method is best. Leviathan is a much larger cross stitch.
