Definition:  Finish provided by turning the raw edges under from 1/8 to 1/2 inch, and then making a second turn to conceal the first. Hem may be secured by hand or machine.

Context:  The pants hem should reach to about the middle of the back of the shoe, and cover the top of the shoes in the front. If the hem hits the front of the shoe, the pants will “break” at about ankle level.
