Definition:  Base fabric (substrate) coated on one side with a synthetic thermoplastic resin; through the application of heat and pressure this fusible interfacing is bonded to the top cloth component thus reinforcing and controlling selected areas of garments.

Context:  Interfacing requirements: fusible interfacings must not cause puckering or strike-through of adhesive after laundering. In addition to standard shell fabric testing, fusible interfacing must be tested for thermal shrinkage, bond strength, and hand.
