Layer of fabric placed between garment sections. Interfacing is used in almost all structured garments and gives support and body to detail areas such as collars, cuffs, lapels, yoke, waistband, etc. It also prevents stretching around the neckline, armholes, and pockets.

Interfacings are available in a variety of weights, constructions, and fiber contents. The general rule regarding their selection is that they be similar or lighter weight than the outer shell fabric.
