A resist technique using hot wax to prevent dye from coloring the surface of fabric or rice paper in the areas where the wax is applied.

Context:
Batik printing differs from blue-printing above all in that the resist - beeswax and resin - is considerable more pliant and much better able to resist than pastes made of flour and clay, thus making freer and more spontaneous designs possible, as well as enriching the choice of colours.
