Adjective phrase
Definition:  Front opening of a garment lapped over double and fastening with two rows of buttons. Originally both rows were functional, now one row is usually decorative.

Context:  Whether single- or double-breasted, a man’s jacket always buttons left side over right. This originated in order to avoid catching the pommel of one’s sword in the opening, when drawing it right-handed.
