Polimoda is particularly well-known for its specialized design courses in fabric design and clothing pattern making and is generally thought of as one of the Best Fashion School in Europe.
Fashion Design: Pattern Design for Men and Women
In the world of fashion, the professional pattern designer is one of the sectors highest in demand figures. Designing is a creative process but if you want to become a fashion designer and work in this highly competitive international market, you have to have the experience and technical skills to convert an idea into a reality.
The pattern designer is crucial in interpreting and translating a designer' concept into an actual three-dimensional garment.
The 3-year course offered by Polimoda helps students develop their creativity, learn the techniques of pattern design, draping, sewing and producing both mens and womenswear collections.
Students will learn many different skills: studying and analyzing designs and sketches of both historical and contemporary designers to interpret and recreate those garments, carry out research into various types of textiles to learn how to ensure wearability, create and produce prototypes of a collection and present their own work both in English and Italian.
Technical skills continue to evolve with experience and experimentation, and pattern designers often introduce creative solutions to the original idea of the designer. An internship during the students last year ensures that pattern designers are prepared to embark on their professional career soon after graduation.
