Polimoda at the service of housing design
12 Polimoda students have contributed to the project "Elastic Habitat", presented by the Studio Avatar at the Biennial Fashion Show in France.

The Biennial Fashion Show took place in Saint Etienne, France, near the Cité du Design, from the 22nd of November to the 3rd of December. Twelve students from the Polimoda Institute have contributed to the project "Elastic Habitat", presented by the Studio Avatar especially for this event.

It is an innovative project for adaptable modular housing unities for all climatic and ambient conditions, easy to install and to transport, cheap and created for extreme situations or emergencies - true "living-work-units": completely flexible forms, designed with universal and recycled materials and developed for the solution of primary needs.

For this occasion, the Polimoda students have created two original proposals: a big carpet to cover the pavement of the modular housing unity, and a pouf / multifunctional container, both produced with recycled materials and perfect for giving comfort and creativity in extreme situations. The particular carpet is composed by many hexagons sewn together: each student has manufactured four of them (50x50 cm), obtaining like this a final result of 12m2 of colourful patchwork cloth. The carpet can be admired inside the Elastic Habitat together with the multi-pocket pouf (another inspired Polimoda creation).

The goal of the Foundation in Fashion Design course is to introduce the pupils into the fashion system by a basic preparation which is fundamental for the possible access to specialisation courses. The course takes one semester and is held both in Italian and English. It leads the student through each phase that characterizes the production way of a fashion collection, also thanks to seminars and visits to commercial houses.
