The make-up artist is working for fashion shoots, catwalk shows, and is in close contact with designers, art directors and fashion editors or make-up and fragrance companies.

This is a short Masters program for aspiring Make-up artists and trend researchers desiring to work in the fashion sector. A course conceived for creative people who are interested in make-up and grooming in a trend setting environment, who finished their bachelor (3 years) or foundation (2 years) degree and want to specialize in the visual aspect of a make-up.

The didactic lessons are held by qualified teachers, who are also professionals with long experience in the world of fashion. Students will be required to make a case study at the end of the 12 weeks.

 

 

 

 


 
Program

main subjects are history of make-up, history of contemporary fashion, trend research and trend setting, different make-up techniques, art directing and make-up, and how to create a look. You will end the course by a case study.

 

History of make-up, grooming, and fragrances: ever since men and woman are expressing their feelings and want to underline their personality, make-up, grooming and fragrances are used. You will study the history of all those products and translate them to the use of today.

History of contemporary fashion design: you will study the fashion of the 20st and 21st century. Many styles and grooming are related to art periods in history. Thhe relation between both is an interesting chapter in the history of fashion. At the end of the 20st century Caroline Evans wrote a book “Fashion at the Edge”. You will study this period regarding to make-up and grooming.

Trend research and trend setting: sometimes make-up is the start of a new trend, sometimes make-up follows a trend. You will learn to analyse trends in the past and you will be able to make trend forecast panels to understand colour changes and fabric changes in fashion. You will make make-up trends.

Art directing and make-up: the art director has the feeling of choosing the right team of photographers, graphic designers, stylists, make-up artists to be able to translate the message of a product to the consumer. He decides the content of the magazine, of the campaign or the styling of the show. He chooses the images and is the last person in charge before a magazine goes to print, a campaign is launched. He decides the medium to launch a campaign, he can choose between different supports such as paper, web, video, or tv. You will analyse the work of famous art directors such as………(Grace Jones) (JPG) Lutgens (parfum) etc…you will be part of the team and are an important key element in the final achievement of an image.

Make-up techniques: You will study the use different products and make-up techniques. You will study the techniques for film, photography, video, film or TV.

Create a look: Finally you will create a look with a guest teacher (famous make-up artist).

Case study of a fashion designer: a final case study of a fashion designer whose campaign is inspired by art, politics or art movements will be delivered in a thesis. The make-up is studied and commented.

Field Trips and testimonials: students will visit several museums and archives.  

 
Eligibility  

The course is offered to all students holding a graduate degree (2 years or 3 years). Preference will be given to graduates in graphic design, fashion, design, architecture, philosophy, sociology or advanced Fashion Design students. Fluent knowledge of English is required.

 

 

 
Employment Opportunities  
Work as an make-up artist in fashion.

By definition this course aims to support the individual student to use his or her skills to start a career in the advertising and fashion world as a make-up artist or a trend researcher. A Polimoda short master at this level is likely to attract students who have some working experience - sometimes in beauty and make-up sector or advertising sector (although this is not an essential entry requirement). Certainly the Polimoda brand opens up to students participating on this course a worldwide network of ex-students contacts in the fashion industry and cultural world.
