  PREPARATION FOR TOEFL
Aims This course is one of the pure language programmes on offer from the Polimoda Language Department with an end-of-course certificate. The department offers these pure language courses as an additional service to the specifically fashion-related language courses regularly held by the institute. They are open to students both from Polimoda and elsewhere.

The TOEFL® test (Test of English as a Foreign Language™) measures the ability of non-native speakers of English to use and understand English as it is spoken, written and heard in academic settings. It is an internationally accepted measure of academic Engish proficiency. This test is required as certification by over 5000 colleges and universities in the world.

The Exam

Various versions of the TOEFL® test are used in different countries: nevertheless, all the versions are equally valid and reliable, plus they are put together and managed on the basis of the strict ETS Standards for Quality and Fairness guidelines.

The Internet-based TOEFL iBT is currently the only version of the test that can be done in Italy. It prepares the students to communicate in English in an academic environment using the 4 key skills:
Reading: measuring the ability to understand academic texts
Listening: measuring the ability to understand spoken English in colleges and universities
Speaking: measuring the ability to speak English
Writing: measuring the ability to write in an appropriate manner to study in colleges and universities.
It is proposed to candidates by Internet in the official test centres approved by ETS. Thanks to the Internet-based format, ETS can record how the student speaks as well as assessing their answers in the standard way. In addition, the on-line recording and reporting of the marks makes it easier for candidates to register for the tests and to receive their results.

 
 

Open to

  
The course is designed for those who already have a knowledge of English suited to real work, study and social situations and who wish to prepare specifically for this exam. This is why the course is so short, and also why Polimoda holds admission exams for the course to provide a guarantee for the students themselves.
 

Admission

  
The course is for a limited number of students in order to guarantee the quality of the training. For those already following English courses with the Polimoda Language Department, it is sufficient to obtain approval from the teacher. Those not registered on a Polimoda course must take an exam to check that they have suitable language skills to pass the course with merit (or to achieve the expected result) after the preparation course.
 
Duration  

The course lasts 30 hours over 3 weeks
Two sessions:
JUNE from 2nd to 20th June 2008
JULY from 1st to 18th July 2008

2 hours a day
