This summer course intends to give participants a close look at the profession of clothes pattern maker, revealing the secrets, explaining the basic techniques, paving the way to further training. To really prepare yourself for this role, it takes years of study and research. This short summer course is just a small taste of the two-year Pattern Making for Womenswear course, which we invite you to look at.
Clothes pattern makers are designers who develop the first prototype of a garment from the stylist's instructions. They are mainly technical figures but by working constantly alongside a stylist, they try out creative solutions that often give added value to the initial idea. They have the task of interpreting the style indications and finding technical solutions to get across the basic idea, in a process involving continual experimentation and personal initiative.
In the present day, with fashion companies working on international and global levels, pattern makers need the skill to deal with different markets, and different body shapes and sizes.
It is perhaps one of the most complex professional figures and therefore most in demand in the world of fashion. It is no coincidence that for years 100% of those completing Polimoda’s Pattern Making for Womenswear course have gone straight into employment.
I should choose the summer Creative Patternmaking course:
- if I am interested in pattern making and I need more information to finally make up my mind (if it really is the thing for me, if Polimoda can give me what I’m looking for, if I’m ready to invest my energy in this venture). To this end, we advise you to reflect on the possibility of also attending the afternoon career guidance course on Job Profiles, a journey through the roles and tasks of the various figures working in the fashion system. It will help you get a better picture of who does what inside (or outside) a fashion company.
- if I have already decided to enrol on a two-year Polimoda course in pattern making and I want to prepare myself for the entrance exam (for participants of the summer course there are special exams based on the work done during the course).

Polimoda accepts students from the age of 16.

There isn’t any admission exam but we please ask you to send us you cv so that we can better organize the class.
