At the end of the masters, the most deserving students will be selected and offered a period of “work experience” in a company selected by Polimoda to complete their training. Polimoda will offer services of career counselling through partner firms or head hunting companies.

Internet is no longer a fashion. Internet makes fashion.

It speeds up the times and rewrites the languages, changes the hours. For the people who work in the fashion system, it overwhelms them completely: the net never sleeps. The web has, however, thrown up new opportunities of work for young people who respond to the appeal of technology. These are dynamic professions, in great demand from the companies, sometimes a combination of old professional expertise brought up to date in web version such as the Online Store Manager, in charge of the online store of a brand or the Online Buyer, a consolidated figure in the real shop, now in virtual garb. For all those with a bent for communication, and especially the addicts of Facebook and Twitter, new figures have emerged, such as the Social Network Specialist, the Digital Pr/Digital Brand Manager, the Community Manager through to the Web Copy Writer/Online Journalist and Fashion Editor.

As Imran Amed, journalist and founder of The Business of Fashion says: «Internet and the social media have opened up new career opportunities, in particular for young people born in the digital age who have grown up with the web as their main communication tool.» He goes on to add that the “managers” summoned to administer the digital presence of the major brands on Facebook or Twitter are under-thirties who have seen what was originally a pastime transformed into a career springboard.

It is precisely to these new trends that Polimoda is looking with its Master in Digital Communication for Fashion designed to train a new generation of digital professionals in the fashion sector who are capable of building innovative virtual spaces and multimedia experiences. This is not just a theoretical course, but rather one that’s essentially practical, teaching students exactly how an e-commerce platform works, how to create a fashion blog and what’s behind crowdsourcing (a phenomenon that offers a great boost to young stylists) right through to the social networks and mobile applications.

Blogs such as The Business of Fashion, FashionablyMarketing.meThe Sartorialist or Hypebeast have become authentic benchmarks that can influence trends and people’s lifestyles. E-commerce platforms such as Yoox.comLuisa Via RomaPolyvoreNet-A-Porter and Asos offer shopping experiences that are increasingly captivating and multimedia. Brands such as BurberryJimmy Choo and Louis Vuitton use Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Pinterest as platforms to launch and promote the campaigns of the new products.

The Master also comprises a series of “guided tours” of some of the most interesting entities and companies on the web scene, in addition to a series of online partners for the final internships. First collaboration with Not Just A Label: at the end of the course, the company will chose one student for an exclusive internship based in London.

Countdown has begun for the Master that starts in June, runs for nine months and is held in English, the only language shared by the entire wide world of the web.
