In today’s dynamic and competitive fashion environment the <Fashion Merchandising and Buying Master> at Polimoda is a program envisaging complete coverage and integration of the major aspects in the sector. Merchandising, Buying and Retail relate efficiently with a clear comprehension of how a company can dominate the market by creating strong ties and interaction between these fields. INFORMATION|ABOUT|COURSE

ELIGIBILITY

The Master Course is open to graduates (or equivalent), degree students preferably in marketing, economics, business administration etc., and professionals with at least 2/3 years experience in fashion marketing sector. Fluent knowledge of English required. For internships in Italian companies, Italian language is desirable.

COURSE|STUDY|PLAN

Merchandising

Assortment plans, Width and Depth of assortments depend largely on several fashion production methods which are minutely explained in the teaching process. The role of a modern, global merchandiser: price lines, price zones, merchandise categories, life cycles, trends, international sourcing decisions and analysis are considered. Working knowledge of culture and recent fashion history, merchandise for uncommon targets is taught through an unusual point of view. Creative aspects of merchandising, connections between designers, product managers, are revealed in every facet. Tools for a complete control of the merchandising strategy: forecast, inventory turnover, merchandising variables are demonstrated and described in exhaustive aspects. The strong alchemy between Merchandising, Buying and Retail are expressed as the wining element in a fashion company.

Buying

Buying management with a broad understanding of the supply chain and the consequence on strategy by using several manufacturing procedures, together with <Time to Market>, Branding Strategies, Global sourcing, strategies for segmenting the target consumer, building customer profiles, understanding market trends and the role of a buyer are explained in many ways. Buying systems, Budgets and Open to Buy, Bestselling Merchandise categories and analysis, special events are demonstrated according to today’s market standards and requests. Combined reciprocal action between Merchandising, Buying and Retail are emphasized as an irreplaceable tool to gain competitive advantage and strong positioning. An exclusive approach for avoiding buying errors through <Lead Time> is lectured.

Retail

The significance of Retail is explained through Distribution Channels and how Direct Operating Stores, and others, are a must for today’s prime fashion companies. How <Lead Time> and <Time to Market> together with a strong <Merchandising and Buying Plan>, using fast <Inventory Turnover> guarantees unique <Competitive Advantages> for companies able to master the method. Ad hoc <Creative Distribution> topics are explained for understanding better different approaches. Retail Market Strategies to build Sustainable Competitive Advantage, Target Markets, Retail Formats, Customer Relationship Management and Customer Behavior are explained in detail. The correct liaison between Merchandising, Buying and Retail gives the student a unique chance of embracing these fields with thorough understanding and obtaining major job opportunities.
