The course aims to produce designers in the footwear and accessories sector, one of the most important and internationally respected in Italian fashion culture.
The rich experience of learning traditional craft skills are combined and strengthened with conceptual research and managerial competences that will form of a well defined professional, a strong creative, or an avant-garde identity.
You will develop and strengthen your creative identity, become an authority in this specific sector and undertake creative, managerial and communication projects either individually or in a team.

During the first year you will study pattern design and sewing techniques and create handmade shoes. Based on deconstruction/reconstruction you will design an experimental shoe and learn 3D sculpting techniques to design and create a form and prototypes. Graphic design classes, including academic studies of the body and of shoes and accessories are crucial to communicate and illustrate ideas.
The second year concentrates on conceptualisation, research and skills. You will create collections after analysing, synthesising and interpreting different sources related to contemporary art, fashion and ethnic cultures. You are encouraged to study how history and culture evolve and can contribute to the future of shoe and accessory design in order to gain inspiration and create a distinctive and unique identity.
You will learn 2D and 3D CAD and computer graphics, create lasts and forms, and further personalise your designs. With the skills acquired you will create and present a portfolio and a first collection of several shoes and accessories.
The third year will enable you to develop your team skills and communicate in a professional way. You will work on interdisciplinary projects following a brief to produce collections in a professional environment in collaboration with manufacturers, fashion designers, artisans, marketing and communication managers.
Essential issues of Collection Management will be applied such as Line Planning, Supply Chain, Production Standards, Budget Control, Pricing and Customer Relationships.
Create, strategic and managerial skills will be practised through workshops and group sessions in which product development scenarios will be analysed and applied.
The fourth year is dedicated to the design, management, the production and communication of the final collection, based on personalised research. You will be encouraged to seek the support of industry. You will present a portfolio and a final showcase. By the end of the course, you will be the distinctive author and art director of your own footwear and accessories collection.
You will learn how to set up a Fashion Business, write a business plan, find partners, and relate to press and clients. During the course we will tutor participation at international fashion talent competitions.
At the end of the four-year course you will be able to present your portfolio and thesis collection to professionals in the industry, talent scouts, buyers and the media – becoming a distinctive author capable of creating and realising a signature collection.
An internship of 3 months in Italy or abroad (in accordance with Italian and International Law) will enable you to acquire experience in a working environment and give you the opportunity to put your skills into practice. You will have gained the knowledge and ability to start your own business and be ready to enter the workplace and embark on a brilliant professional career as a successful Footwear and Accessories Designer.

ELIGIBILITY
The course is open to students with a high school diploma or equivalent.
Candidates must have a good general education and demonstrate a basic knowledge and interest in the world of fashion, footwear and accessories. They must be strongly motivated and show enthusiasm, investing time in creativity and seeking personal professional development. A strong and original personality, open-mindedness and critical and creative aptitudes are required.
HOW TO APPLY
Candidates will be selected according to:
• presentation of portfolio, curriculum vitae and motivation letter;
• practical test held at Polimoda;
• interview with the Head of the Department.
