Notes

The three-year course teaches students to cultivate and express their innate creativity through drawing skills and the development of a personal graphic style. Participants will learn to study, experiment, discover and innovate, and with a solid training in subjects such as sewing, pattern-making and draping they will be well prepared to enter the world of fashion.

A distinctive plus factor of Polimoda courses is the personalised internship in Italy or abroad, providing direct experience of the professional world to round off the teaching programme.

Students will be able to enter a professional career as assistants in creative studios, to trend researchers or in styling departments, and gain professional experience equipping them to become the Artistic Directors and Fashion Designers who play an important role at the highest levels of Italian and international fashion.

POLIMODA|COURSE|DESCRIPTION

Students are encouraged to study and analyse the crucial moments of history and culture and how these developments can contribute to tomorrow's fashion. Progressive study of art history, ethnic traditions and sociology will help them to find inspiration and create a distinctive and unique identity.

During the first year participants learn the basic skills ranging from graphics, including academic drawing, fashion illustration and computer graphics, to pattern design, sewing, and knitwear. Classes on the history of costume and textile sciences are taught simultaneously with creative design.

The second year students will concentrate on conceptualisation, research and skills. They will create a first model after analysing, synthesising and interpreting different sources related to art and fashion, and to ethnic cultures. They begin to make use of draping techniques and with the skills they have acquired will realize a collection of 5 models.

The third year is dedicated to the design, management, and communication of an innovative vision and the realisation of a fashion collection of 8 models, preceded by detailed research. Textile printing, an understanding of the structure of a fashion collection, the presentation of a portfolio and the principles of management are introduced to the student. At the end of the three-year course a fashion event is held at which students present their collection to professionals in the industry, talent scouts, buyers and the media.

By the end of the course, the student will be the distinctive author and art director of his/her own collection.

As a conclusion to the three-year course, an optional one-year Masterclass gives students the opportunity to further develop and strengthen their design identity. They will realize individual or team projects at a professional level within the creative, managerial or communication areas of fashion.
