From 1892 to today, consult the archive of American Vogue in the Polimoda Library
The Polimoda Documentation Centre boasts an important new service, offering its visitors the chance to exploit the electronic archive of Vogue, available for absolutely the first time in Europe.
Vogue (American edition) is the first fashion magazine to be completely digitised and indexed, and The Vogue Archive contains the entire collection from the first issue published in 1892 up to the present, reproduced in high-resolution colour images. The archive comprises over 400,000 pages, indexed by research criteria and key words, and represents a precious source for research since it brings together the work of the greatest stylists, designers, photographers and illustrators of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. An essential source for the study of fashion and its history.
The database enables users to find images for inspiration, to retrace the history of fashion, to carry out research on the evolution of a brand, to view the advertising campaigns published over the years and to explore the social issues and cultural developments of the last 120 years. All the texts can be searched, including the contents of the articles, the titles and the captions, as well as the covers and the advertisement pages.
An intuitive, user-friendly interface makes it possible to conduct targeted searches by keyword, author, brand or designer, and also by type of fashion product. In just a few minutes, you will have at disposal over a century of fashion recounted in the pages of the most important international magazine in the sector.
The service is now available through the computers of the Polimoda Library, and is reserved for registered users.
