ONLINE CATALOG

Search tips
The search engine allows queries to be formed for finding information about a specific topic. You can start a SIMPLE SEARCH, which offers a variety of direct search options in our library's online catalog: title, author, subject, etc., or you can start an ADVANCED SEARCH, which allows you to carry out searches on a greater number of fields. Above all, it makes it possible to cross-reference terms belonging to different fields.
The most important fields are:
Title
Author
Place of publication / Publisher
Subject
Name identifiers
Sundry identifiers
Remember to use appropriate SUBJECT HEADINGS. You may also use a personal name (name identifiers) or organizational name (sundry identifiers) as a subject heading if you are looking for information about (not by) that person or organization. You will, for example, be able to find titles of items the library owns listed under all of the following subject headings:
Shoes (Subject)
Abstract art (Subject)
Poiret, Paul (Name identifiers)
Moschino cheap and chic, marchio (Sundry identifiers)
Moschino jeans, marchio (Sundry identifiers)

If you are having trouble with the correct wording to use for a topic, you may consult our Thesaurus, or ask a reference librarian for help.

For an overview of a topic, use a general general encyclopedia. You may also want to consult a specialized subject encyclopedia, dictionary or handbook about fashion. Consult our Reference library and our Glossaries.
