DEPARTMENT Research & Trend Vision

This course will introduce students to the art and science of trend forecasting for fashion, design and luxury. A trend forecaster is a specialist in predicting and forecasting the future of a specific area or field. Their work is based on various key moments including:

Research: analysing the spirit of the time, keeping ahead of what’s going on below the lines of the collective horizon, detecting emerging tangible and intangible values in society;

Report: applying to direct sources in an interview format, through debate or evaluation from personal experiences, collating information in a unique format, individuating one or more direction/s for the future;

Application: introducing trends within a brand identity or product lifecycle, presenting a new trend or a set of possible trends in different formats.

Trend forecasting is the main engine for change and innovation in creative industries and it’s one of the most important positions for companies who want to always be one-step ahead. Trend forecasting is also trend setting, the art of being a ‘business leader’ is over and above being simply a ‘good business performer’. Trend forecasters work for companies, agencies, fashion & luxury brands and on a freelance basis.
