Leather Technology focuses on the fascinating, artisan traditions of manufacturing leather garments and bags. The course discovers specific treatments and handling techniques, as well as preparation processes, stitching, working and leather finishings.
The curriculum includes: stitching and construction techniques; leather workshop; fashion software; technical sheets and drawings; fashion design. This course focuses on artisan production techniques and the analysis of different styles of clothing and leather goods. It goes through the whole process, from paper modelling to cutting, sewing and assembly, prototyping and production; all of which will be illustrated and put into practice using sample models.
The course also includes: a visit to the Gucci and Ferragamo museums; an international guest lecture by a fashion industry expert; a personal project; and an individual interview with a senior teacher from the course to assess your potential and further opportunities to continue in this field of study. The whole working process and final projects will be documented in a design book, adding value to the portfolio of any fashion designer.
Participation in this course is an excellent initial stage of preparation in the fashion business, a course of study that may continue with the 4-year undergraduate degree in Leather Technology or the 9-month master’s degree in Accessories Design.
