Fashion Design · Master's
Leather Craft offers a detailed look at the technology behind footwear and leather goods while also focusing on the fascinating, artisan traditions of manufacturing. The course covers a gamut of specific treatments and handling techniques, as well as preparation processes, stitching, working and leather finishings.
The curriculum includes: basic design; the creation of technical designs; a complete overview on how manufacturers organise production and manage supply; learning the operation and use of all machinery. It will also be possible to apply artisan hand stitching techniques on leather. At the end of the course, participants will prototype a pair of classic ballerina flats and a tote-bag under the guidance of a master craftsman and a technical assistant.
The course also includes: a visit to the Ferragamo Museum; an international guest lecture by a fashion industry expert; a personal project; and an individual interview with a senior teacher from the course to assess your potential and opportunities to further specialize in this field of study. The whole working process and final project will be documented in a design book, adding value to the portfolio of any fashion designer.
This course is an excellent initial stage of preparation on the fashion business, a course of study that may continue with the 4-year undergraduate degree in Leather Technology or the 9-month master’s degree in Accessories Design.
