Fashion Business · Master's
Fashion Shoes & Bags offers a detailed look at the technology behind footwear and leather goods. The course gives an in-depth knowledge of the techniques needed to create bag and footwear prototypes, recognising the different types of leather and identifying the differences in quality and tanning techniques.
The curriculum includes: basic design; a study of technical data sheets; the creation of technical designs; a panorama of the way in which manufacturers organise production and manage supply; learning the operation and use of all machinery; 2D and 3D design software. It will also be possible to use artisan hand stitching techniques on leather. At the end of the course, participants will make a pair of basic ballerina flats and a tote-bag under the guidance of a master craftsman and a technical assistant.
The course also includes: a visit to the Gucci and Ferragamo museums; a visit to a tannery, an accessories manufacturer or a leather factory; an international guest lecture by a fashion industry expert; a personal project; and an individual interview with a senior teacher from the course to assess your potential and further opportunities to continue in this field of study. The whole working process and final projects will be documented in a design book, adding value to the portfolio of any fashion designer.
Participation in this course is an excellent initial stage of preparation in the fashion and design businesses, a course of study that may continue with the 4-year undergraduate degree in Fashion Technology or Footwear & Accessories Design or the 9-month master’s degree in Shoe & Bag Collection Design.
