Since January, word about town has been that design power couple Lucie and Luke Meier, who have both successfully grown their careers in the fashion industry, were going to take over the Creative Direction at Jil Sander, together. This has finally been confirmed and we couldn’t be happier for the Polimoda alumni duo.
Lucie Meier has worked for the best of the best when it comes to luxury fashion, including Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga and Christian Dior, where she famously led the spring and fall ready-to-wear and couture studios with Serge Ruffieux, and guided the house in its recent post- Raf Simons and pre- Maria Grazia Chiuri interim period.
Luke Meier is the Co-Founder and Creative Director of the brand OAMC, which he launched in 2013 with Arnaud Faeh, another Polimoda alumnus. Formerly the Head of Design at Supreme in New York, Mr Meier has since built his menswear empire to a cult-status, making the choice of Jil Sander to appoint Lucie and Luke as joint creative directors – a luxury womenswear specialist and streetwear pro, respectively – particularly interesting.
But it all started over 15 years ago in Florence at Polimoda, when Lucie was studying Marketing after being “advised by several people that it was a very well-known school across the world”, and Luke, Knitwear Design. The two Swiss natives will now work on both womenswear and menswear for Jil Sander, with their first offering of the womenswear pre-collection and menswear presentation to come in June of 2017. We can’t wait!
